They say stuff about you?

Not about how I look, but they talk, yeah.

Why? About what?

'Bout me bein' poor and quiet, 'bout my dad.

Um . . . what's "poor"?

When you don't have a lot of money.

That seems like a pretty dumb reason. Who cares about money?

It's what you need ta eat. Ta have a place to live and sleep. Ta have clothes that fit and don't smell.

The Horde always gave us all those things. Food and a barracks and clothes.

'Cause you're a soldier. Don't work like that in other places.

Can't you just become a soldier too?

No, kids ain't allowed to fight where I'm from. People don't like it, and my dad wouldn't let me.

That doesn't make any sense . . . all soldiers start as kids. Your soldiers must not be very good if they never fight til they're grown up.

Not where I'm from. Most all countries use adults for fightin', and they're not bad at it.
